Gender case of South African runner Caster Semenya remains unresolved

DOHA, Qatar - The International Association of Athletics Federations is still working on the case of Caster Semenya, the South African runner whose future is uncertain due to questions about her gender.

IAAF spokesman Nick Davies said Thursday that "negotiations and discussions" were ongoing but refused to comment further.

Semenya won the women's 800 metres at the world championships in Berlin in August. Her dramatic improvement in times and muscular build led the IAAF to order gender tests.

The IAAF is still reviewing the test results to determine Semenya's eligibility to compete.

In September, Australian newspapers reported that Semenya has male and female sexual organs, but the IAAF has refused to confirm or deny those claims.
